Hey Sparky, how you doin??

I had one and was told by people that 400 was about it. Never tryed any more than that. The upper gears are the weak spot as I recall.

Slowly but surely working on the Cougar.

Talk to you later

Depends on which King Cobra. They were redesigned around 1990 and its my understanding that the newer drive, also called the 800, can handle 650hp. Ive also been told that one of the VolvoPenta drives is an exact copy of the 800 drive. Everything is interchangeable. I found a great article on the whole thing awile back while surfing. Ill see if I can find it again. The older King Cobras had lots of problems most of which relaed to the clutch on top of the drive.

Well,
I had a 1988 FourWinns 211 Liberator with a 460 Ford. Bored and stroked it to 540 .Dynoed the motor and had 710 ft lbs. of torque and 625 hp. Was advised by two OMC mechanics" No straight arm hole shots and watch catching too much air". Obeyed their wishes and no problem. Sold the boat after replacing the 460 three years ago and I till see and talk to the owner...no problems. Tell ya what.that boat was one bad MoFo. No GPS but could EASILY bury 80 mph speedo.

These King Cobra's are 1990 vintage the two motor packages are the 370 H.P. bb. chevy's w/ DIS. ignition system and holly carb and rectangular port head's from the factory, probably the same long block as a 365 mag or a 420 from merc. The motor and drive packages only had 52 hrs. on them when I pulled them out of the boat!! I have a pair of 177 weiand superchargers from a pair of merc 525's. And I know for sure that volvo did buy the tooling from OMC to build there SX COBRA drive. If you pull the omc king crobra apart the bravo and the volvo cobra sx apart they are all very much a like!! So far I've got mixed a motion's from every body about the omc drives, And I sure have alot of old broken bravo part's around the shop, In all reallity I think there both a peice of **** !!!!! Inspect, How is the couger project going? I've started a new one myself a 32' predator cat wich came out of my molds before I purchased them, Thats where the 370 King Cobra packages came from, Let me know how it's going! Spark.
