If my Porsche and boat ownership has taught me anything...that thing is a nightmare guaranteed. It will always be broke and absurdly expensive to fix.

Yeah, only 330hp stock, similar to a 7.4L Merc.

But, for less than $10K you could easily get it to 500hp and still have longevity, I have seen them reliably make 900HP or so. Those motors routinely go 300K miles(in a car) without a rebuild if maintained properly, not sure how that would translate to "hours"..

Compared to the cost of Genuine Merc parts I doubt their is much difference is replacement part cost. :-)

They have large bore spacing and be bored and stroked to some big displacement.

Funny, I had forgotten Porsche built a Twin Turbo 32V(Quad Cam 4 Valve) V8 Offshore marine engine decades ago...long before the Mercury Racing QC4V was a twinkle in their eyes.
