Skater 28 - how fast?

Hi!

Our Skater 28 will arrive every day now. Our plan has been to mount 2 x 2.5 EFI on, but I have been more and more cautious about their and Promax 300 longvity lately. My own 1999 Promax 300's crank broke apart one week ago - and the engine has mostly run 4.000 - 4.500 rpms (service every 50 hrs, Premimum Plus Oil, 130F temp, etc, etc).

So, I consider to add 2 x Merc 250 EFI (3.0 litre non racing engines). How fast will the Skater 28 run with those engines? The weight is just as Promax 300.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers, Toffen G

careful about 250's

The 250's are great motors and similar in power and weight but they are not designed for cat hulls. The midsection, especially the motor mounts and the lower unit are not setup for the intense driving conditions of a cat. I can promise you within no time you would be replacing the exhaust adapter plate which of course holds your motor mounts. I know they have that new 250x and maybe it is more study in the midsection and you might be able to buy a speedmater lower unit as an option but you will spend money to make those 250's adaptable and almost certain they will break. good luck in any case and youll love your new 28. 2.5's are definitely choice. safe boating.

Buy the 2.5 280's

Buy the 280's and keep your wallet open for rebuilds! you'll have more fun and speed, isn't that why you bought a skater anyway?
If you wanted something reliable you should have bought a boston whaler with 115 yamaha 4 cycle's;)
Navigator thats a nice little skater! What do you have for power?
