We are looking at this as a project. We would add it to the stable to use as more of a cruising type boat. It looks like it will hold 6-7 passengers comfortably. I know the history of the boat and have spoken to the owner.

We would put on #6 drives but don't want huge power. Our current 40 Skater is fast enough if we ever feel the need.

I was thinking 800-900hp or so with some 33/34 props would be a nice accelerating boat with a top speed of 110ish.

I'm no expert but won't it be much faster than 110 with 800-900hp? More like 130-140? You should be able to do 110 with 525's. Or do you mean under propping it so it accelerates like a drag boat?

My current boat with 1030hp per side and 37 Herrings tops out about 140mph at 6200rpm.

With the 33s it came with when I bought it top speed was 127mph.

I would be more than happy with 110mph in the project boat.

What motors has that boat had in it? Get some performance #'s from the owner and that'll get you a good idea of where to start. It would be nice to have a pair of motors you only had to open every two-three seasons.

It had diesels in it. The owner did not like the performance so he was in the process of converting it but sold it.

The whole idea with less power would be to get 300 hours or more between rebuilds.

Throw some Supercharged LSX SBC in that bad boy. Light weight cheap, relatively and cool.

An older 40 like that with some 900s should do about 120-125 I set up right

I'd nix the #6's and use a pair of ASD7M Arneson's they will be bulletproof and save you a ton of money... Jim

I believe the arneson drives need a flat continuous transom.
