Lots of good boating around Ft.myers there is a offshore club down here Called Ft Myers Offshore we do around 5-6 events in the winter months. As long as you flush and clean your boat good after each use its not as bad as people make it seem. There are a bunch of storage places around the area too it depends on if you want to dry store it or keep it on a trailer. Also you could find a boat lift to rent also.

Port Charlotte is fine, but if you're going to work in Ft. Myers that's a pretty good commute if you're thinking of buying in Port C, lots of places to boat and store your boat, what kind of boat do you have, if I worked in ft. Myers I would look at Cape Coral, it's right across the College bridge and there's lots of houses on the ICW, good luck with the move.

Good luck. Working in ft myers I'd stay further south like the cape. Flushing is required. Also might not hurt to add closed cooling. Limit saltwater touching your engine internals at all. Overall taken care of right the salt isn't half as bad as some claim. Some would have you believe the boat will instantly disintegrate. Hmmmm. Lots of boats down here, out all the time. Must work somehow. Lol

I rented a house in the cape it was a 2/2/2 with a boat lift and a pool for 1070 a month completely remolded. There are plenty of launch ramps close by. IMO there are more places to go by boat in the ft. myers / cape coral area.

I guarantee you that NO ONE did more research on this transition than he.
His wife is also now a realtor down there.

If you are cocerned about salt I would trailer. I have done in/ out, and lift. You can clean the boat so much better on a trailer.
