5. readers digest version...Don designed (well if cutting a hull in half is designing) for the US Govt. under the blue thunder name and sold company to Ben. (with contract for several more) US Govt figured out they were buying drug interdiction boats from a drug dealer. Ben cried to Don, don bought company back after deducting a Ben's an idiot surcharge. Ben got pissed and had Don killed. In chapter 13 Ben tries to break out of prison Hollywood style by hiring a helicopter pilot to come get him.. Unfortunatly he failed to hire a competent chopper pilot, er, alledged chopper pilot who crashed and burned.

So like the cable commercial,

When you want to buy a boat company you buy one from Don
When you buy a boat company from Don, he always gets the long end of the stick and you get the short end
When you get the short end of the stick you get unhappy
when the govt tells you the short end just got a lot shorter you get mad
When you sell the company back to don, he gets the long end and you get the short end
When you continually get long ended in the short end without a reach around you get really really mad
When you get really really mad you do stupid things like hire idiots to kill people
when you hire idiots to kill people, they get caught
When they get caught they rat you out
When they rat you out you go to prison
When you go to prison you try to escape by hiring a helicopter that crashes
When your helicopter crashes your stuck in prison
When your stuck in prison, Bubba looks at you and says you have a pretty mouth
Don't get molested by Bubba, next time you buy a boat company make sure you get the long end of the stick.
HAHAHAHAHHA this is awesome!

So when you cut a Cig in half, you - somewhat surprisingly - end up with a boat that's not half as good. Of course I hear they make excellent planters.

That particular boat has been for sale as long as I can remember . I know there was one guy that put four 250's on one and it did a blistering 48mph . Not fast by any means but it does have a cool factor . It's kinda like owning a 77 Trans Am . Not really fast but just so cool who really cares .

I’ll add my two cents to some quite accurate info posted on the USA 39 that was developed and sold to the U.S. Customs Service as the Blue Thunder during the Reagan administration. Don Aronow was a personal friend of VP Bush (Bush had a center console Cigarette) and Willie Von Rob was the Customs Commissioner (open proponent of shooting down drug smuggling aircraft) and they loved new toys. The Customs Marine Enforcement Officers loved the boat as a platform because it was easy to move around on and stable in rough water. The one problem, it was heavy and an absolute slug. At the time carbed 500 hp was state of the art from Mercury Racing and those engines were unreliable and needed super unleaded. The drives were constantly breaking apart under the severe duty and strain. The Customs Marine Center in St. Augustine could never put together a reliable engine drive combo. The boats were lucky to reach mid 50’s with all the gear and fuel. Ultimately the boats were in dry dock more then underway and Customs cut the program and relegated the boats to Dog and Pony shows. Customs then went with a combination of 35’ and 38’ Cigarettes with some 37’ Midnight Express after they seized that company. BTW Speed Kills is a good book on the whole Aronow murder.
