Older Expedition for towing???
Looking for something cheap to pull the boat around, needs to last me aprox 2 years. Looking at older Expeditions. Found a 98 150k miles Edddie Baur. Looks clean, 5.4 motor 4x4 for 4500. Fair price?? Any known problems with these things??? Will they go 180k fairly easily?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I had a 98 exactly like you describe, it was the worst towing vehicle I have ever used. Brakes were terrible, steering was way too vague and suspension was too mushy. Could have just been mine, but I hated it and only towed with it once and bought a truck. That was towing a 25 Baja.

Not sure about the spark plugs, my 05 (04-06 models) had that known problem. I broke 6 of 8 getting them out. Pain in the but!, I pull my 33 ol with a 11 expedition ltd and it tows well for now till I get a f250 later this year or maybe next. We got about 80k on our 03 and not a lick of problems. We also had an 02 at work with 240k and it ran like a top. Needed ball joints changed, but ran well.
Edit: just read other comment on the 98. I towed my 25ol with the 03 and it towed better than my f150 fx4. Seemed like more weight in the rear that helped not throw the back end around like the truck. Different years but not sure if comparable. Different body style too.

I have a 95 F150 eddie pickup work truck. 300,000 miles. I haven't changed the oil (just add) or the filter in 4 years plus it goes in and out of 4x4 like butter. I move my 38 Flat Deck in and out of the building and on my property on the bumper no problems. Love that truck

We had a 99 Eddie Bauer that towed our 28' Active Thunder to Fl and back. I ran the minimum for tongue weight since the wheel base is kinda short. Wife towed with it too. I did add headers and flowmaster exhaust which helped wake it up. Spark plugs were never a problem. Definately a work horse. It took getting t-boned to kill it.
Florida Pic is actually the only one I have.
