Time to go bigger from a 588ci to a 632ci

Has anyone had a dealings with Beck racing engines in AZ or ARE out of Ohio. They are telling me they can get me 840-850hp NA with hydrolic lifters 10.1 comp out of a 632CI on 91 octane. What do you guys think? Any feedback on these guys positive or negative would be appreciated, as this will be an expensive venture. For what its worth this will be going in a 24ft HTM cat with a Imco SC drive.

Cat;

I have a 632" with 10.5:1 comp, fully ported and polished dart 360 heads, dart tunnel ram, 2X775 race Demons, comp solid roller 280/288 @.050 .785 lift on 115 cernterline. made 900hp @6600 rpm. @5800 it made 840hp. I very seriously doubt you will get the 850hp you are looking for with less compression and a hydralic cam. I've had lifter issues in my motor and thought about going to hydralic rollers, all the manufacturers and builders I spoke with thought I would give up 100hp. I didn't want to loose that much so I have a set of Schubeck radius lifters going in today. Oh, and I run 93 Octane with 32 degrees of timing. I would say 775-800hp is more likely. I spoke recently with a 25 Daytona owner from SC woth a 622" motor (same heads, 10:1)solid roller and a dart single plane manifold with a 1250 Dominator that makes 840hp at 6300. They just arn't going to get there with a hydralic cam. Also the guy who built my motor knows how to make big power he primarily builds drag motors and has built several 500" NHRA pro stock motors.

JD,
Supposedly they are getting 823hp@5900rpm and 786tq @4500 rpm on 91 oct out of a 604ci, they told me by going to the 632 they can get the addl hp, all with a single dominator I could fax you the parts list if you think it would help, part of the deal is a few hours on the dyno.
My thoughts were to go out when they do the dynoing and only pay them the balance if they get the hp. You are correct I have talked to a number of builders and almost all want to go blower, I don't want to have to cut the hatch.

Stay NA, less complicated and easier on Bravo's. Fax me the list @513-579-3707 attn Corey Jordan. Just be careful with "correction factors" on Dyno's. I would have to witness the pulls to believe them and I'm a little skeptical to say the least. The other side is even if they are 50 hp shy that should only be about 2 mph. ;) You should run 100 in your HTM with 775 HP anyway. :cool: I am most interested in what heads they are using.

There is a board member with a HTM and a Lingenfelter 632. I forget his name...something like...badSR71? Anyways, he's recently posted about trying to sell the boat so he can buy a house.

I can't remember his exact screen name, but you're right. I met him at LOTO and he runs about 106. He's in the August edition of Hot Boat and it say's the motor dynoed at 806hp@ 5,900rpm.

His name is Todd. The post your refering to is here...

Thanks for the feedback, JD I will fax that stuff off to you later this PM, I certainly hope it is more than you suggested HP because thats about what my 588 has est 760-780hp(not dynoed)but I am currently doing 97-101mph on GPS&radar as comparison Todds HTM with the 604ci with 800hp does 100-106 and mikes HTM with 540ci 640hp is doing 85-90mph, all guys running Imco SC drives, all with hydrolic and single carbs. The reason for going bigger like everyone else is to go faster, these HTM hulls fly and are really stable, anyone ever deal with Beck or ARE?

jdnca1 08-20-2002 12:16 PM

Cats...another suggestion if you have a choice in the matter is to go with a 622" motor to save some piston wall in case you have any motor problems. A 622 is a 4.56 bore, 632" is a 4.60 bore and a 638 is 4.625 bore which is max recc on a Merlin block. You are right about those HTM hulls..they DO FLY.

SR-24 08-20-2002 12:34 PM

I do honestly think they could pull it off. A friend of mine has a 572 that dynoed at 780hp.
