Interesting question, Logic dictates that the turbo would be more efficient. That said, I have 5/8 litre Whipple blowers on my boat and at 12 lbs of boost the blowers can be turned with a surpentine belt and does not slip.... Comparing my current boat to my prior boat, both with equal HP but old boat with Roots blowers, new boat has nearly twice the range of old boat on same amount of fuel. I know a lot of that is hull design advances and difference between 6 (surfacing) drive and Bravo style drive but the difference was substantial and I drive the new boat way harder.... Current boat 0 boost at 100 MPH/ Old boat 6 lbs boost at 100 MPH

I believe the auto blowers and the Whipple blowers are using a much more efficient bypass system

my 03 cobra never gets into boost until it gets under a load (vacuum) as soon as it hits that sweet spot - 18 lbs.

same with my whippled 540 in my boat - cruising 55mph - 0 lbs.

I wonder if the psi type blowers bypass at all ? hell it would run 0- whatever top lick was depending on rpm... if so. that would use more gas exponentially for a weekend boater... racers wouldnt care or know the difference.

Some Psi's bypass, just to help get the blower surge out
They are very efficient to spin as are the Whipples. The large Whipple R980's like we run put 4-5 lbs cruising
3200-3500 rpms

All BS aside, I am curious to see what the fuel consumption of a Merc. 1075 blower motor is versus a Merc. 1100 Twin Turbo motor.
