Is there amateur boat racing?
What is involved in racing single motor v bottom 28 ft. ?
I have always raced MX and looking to see what it takes to prep a boat for racing. NOT DRAG racing. Turns and rough water type racing..

A 28' would fit in OPA's class 5. This is a speed bracketed class to 75mph. Any power engine check out OPA's website: www.OPARACING.org Good luck!

Saris puts on a amateur race of sorts up at lake George NY every year in the spring. It always seems like a great time. I believe it's called the lake George performance weekend?
I plan on going every year but the boat is usually torn into a million pieces.
If you want to practice running hard just find a day that it's rough and go out by yourself with your life vest tether and possibly helmet and go running. The only way to get better is seat time, I don't suggest trying it with passengers on the boat, anytime I have passengers on the boat i behave. However me and the girl will tether in and wear life vests and go find some rough water when the mood strikes

I looked into racing a few years ago with POBRA. No matter what it is expensive. Entry fees, crew fees, pit pass, etc. Figure you're going to spend around $5K per race. That may be a tad on the high side but by the time you pay fees, hotel, food, fuel, drinks, etc it adds up. The organizing bodies have a lot of expenses to pay for and the field is usually not that big so entry fee per boat can be high.
I never did race (although I was a safety boat once) and just started running with friends instead of a formal race. Obviously you can't do that with a laid out course with buoys but you can race point to point in the ocean.
