What Did I Just Buy???
Hey Everyone!
I recently purchased an older boat and all the seller really provided for specifics was that it was a 1983 Challenger 21 Outboard. It originally had a 230HP Mercury but they changed the motor to a 1988 Yamaha Excel 225HP.
I have been trying to do my homework and so far it seems that these boats are still considered by many to be a great boat. I am guessing that I have a 1983 Hammond Challenger V2100. But I have also heard of sub models like "MK II" and "Sport".
Any information that anyone can give me on this boat would be awesome. But I do have a few specific questions...
1) Where would I find the actual VIN on the hull? They gave me J01520, but that seems fairly short.
2) Did Hammond also make the trailers?
3) Is this an actual Hammond? and If so,
4) How do I tell the sub-model?
5) Is this motor
Thank you very much for your time!

Wow! Been learning lots about these boats. Seems to me that I have a classic worth keeping. I took it out this past Sunday and was pleased until it starting running poorly. Tuned it up a little over the past couple of days and went out tonight again. I think the fuel is giving me grief as It came with half a tank of what I learned is 2 year old fuel. That will be pumped out tomorrow. Needless to say she ran just shy of 55mph on the GPS during tonight's run!
