Default Project Allison: From One Best Friend to Another

Cool restoration, with a touching back story, of an aquatic hot rod classic at Pier 57 Marine, http://speedonthewater.com/boat-rest...end-to-another

Cool Deal, That's what friends do... Those Allison Grand Sports are Incredible Boats. Not a fishing boat, But a Kick Azz Ski, Wake Jumper, Lake Racer, Have a Great fun day on the water. Fun Boat Rates right up there with a Challenger..

As you've owned two, maybe you can help me verify something: Though he hasn't ridden in it himself (nor have I) Alan at Pier 57 was told that boat will run 70 to 90 mph with current power (200 hp). Does that sound right to you? I couldn't verify it so I didn't include it, but if so ... damn.

A Grandsport is well documented in running a 100+ MPH with the old 2.5 (260) or a 280. With a 225 Promax or a good set up 200, speeds of 90 are possible and exceeded. They are a fantastic boat for what they are - a 20 foot sportboat that will seat 4 and run on smaller lakes or rivers.

With a 200, that boat will run 95 all day long if set up properly.

But not with me in it. I admit to total cowardice when it comes to running fast in small boats. And that is one small boat.

It never gets old hearing really cool stories like that !!!

I have an early 70's 15' Allison here in the shop that I picked up a month or so back that I'm completely redoing for myself.. I've got a 15 inch midsection 150 XS inline 6 Merc. to hang on the back of it, so it should be a really fun boat.. So Matt if 95 is to fast for you in a 20 footer, I'm doubting low to mid 80's in a 300+ pound hull that's 5 foot shorter would be your thing either... haha !!
