Boat was fun as heck and pretty well laid out, not gonna be the fastest thing but theres room to grow lol. Tell ya one thing growing up on this body of water i threw in the towel long ago on speed and opted for comfort. I recently went from a 38 Donzi ZX to a straight bottom 38 Scarab Thunder because of how poor a variable deadrise hull takes the crap we get out there. I made the trip back and fourth in that 34 without issue from our end of the pond to the Bay countless times so you know it knows its way .
I really like that Scarab, does it still have bottom paint though?

Ever consider a Progression 237? With a bone stock 502, you can run low 80's. And, it's great on rough water. (Trust me, I've driven and ridden in one in real snotty stuff.)

Thank you for all the replies. I am looking to stick with a single engine boat. I will look into the outlaws like many of you have said and also the scarab 28' excel. As for needing a bigger boat for the area, I make the run to PIB from monroe quite a bit on the boat I have now it just isn't always very comfortable. Hopefully I will be able to go to a 30+ in the future but thats gonna be a little ways off.

Thanks again and let me know of any further suggestions!

Nobody for a Powerquest? I'm a newb, but what I've read, they're great in rough water and right in the OP's price range.

'92-'96 260 Legend, 270 Laser maybe?

I would most definitely have a survey done to any older boat to check for wet wood or rot and also a sea trial in the conditions you will be running is a must. Some older Checks have an awful tendency to porpoise due to developing a hook in the hull due to wet wood and being on roller bunk trailers. A 24 Baja Outlaw, although smaller cabin, is also a great boat in the price range. Good luck.

I was just wondering about the having the boat surveyed, could you possibly tell me some more about that? I am not familiar.

If your looking for good rough water performance in an older hull, see if you can find a Corsa. The 26' Corsa was an awesome boat. Single I/O was most common although there were some with twin outboards.
