Came upon this older thread regarding Punta Gorda. As a future potential resident and avid power boater (currently own a Sonic) I wold like to understand a bit more about the reason for the lack of peolple with powerboats in these areas (PGI, BSI, SGC, etc...). Have looked in many of these areas and have noticed the same (i.e. not many of these types of boats on lifts on the canals). What is ("boating") life like for powerboaters in these areas? What is it like crossig the Charlotte Harbor to get to the ICW and the Gulf (in a powerboat)? Does it take long? Are there places where boaters "raft up"? I would really welcome any boaters who frequent these areas to speak with them about the pros and cons of home ownership in these areas.
Thanks.

Ended up purchasing a second home in PGI, looking toward retirement. Have taken our jet ski out into the harbor, but we really liked the fact that our seawall and dock is maintained by the city.
