Where are you getting your information?
Having watched the entire first race from the Outer Mole while speaking with Gary Ballough who described conditions today as "a lot rougher than they look," Michael Janssen ("roughest I've been in five years"") post race after taking the Superboat Vee title, J.R. Byrider's throttleman Mark Kowalski ("It's going to be rough") and Bob Teague ("we like rough water, especially with this wind"" I would gently have to disagree.
But don't take my word for it, http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/GM/054.html.

It was also stated the boats turning into the wind on the outside leg ??? According the flags on the SBI Trailer the wind would be behind them on the outside leg at turn 1.

So do you agree with the call to shorten an "offshore" race due to these conditions?

As a commentator/journalist myself, I am observing. But I'm not in the boats, which is why I ask the people who were or are going to be. And they're telling an entirely different story.
Now, if you want to talk flat, check out Friday's race.
As for agreeing or disagreeing with the call, I have no opinion as I have no dog in the fight. To be clear, and I don't think I was, the race was shortened by number of laps, not lap distance, today. My pure guess is it what was done to preserve equipment. On that, too, I have no opinion.

Superboat V , P 3 & P4
Just by watching most of the boats from turn 1 to turn 2 "The Wall" for the most part the water is continuously breaking off the boats meaning they are rarely leaving the water. I think the most air is being seen when they are coming into the harbor where it typically gets a lot of side wash off the wall.
1 to 3 foot seas typically was seen as ideal conditions. Today they make it sound like a hurricane ... Just look at how well SNB ran through all of it in a 29 footer. I don't know why Doc feels it was rougher today than 2011 when the big Warpaint cat stood it up and stuffed it ? Perhaps when any close competition was nonexistent they pulled back on the throttles and at slower speeds you can end up with a rougher ride..... It just seems unfair to the teams looking to go the distance that they shortened up the distance for a what is a Double Points Race.
