Default Looked at some boats today. Looking for a Baja 250/270

I drove from buffalo ny to Cleveland to look at 2 boats. 1989 baja 240 sport. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/boa/4731644280.html The boat and trailer were flawless inside and out cosmetically. The entire floor was rotted, had a header leak, and water was leaking out the header or head. I asked if he was firm on 10k, he said yup he paid 15k last summer. I passed. I the. Drove 3 hours to Columbus to look at a "mint" 250sport. The 250 was ok, solid boat. Gel coat was oxidized, wiring was cobbed, motor was corroded, side windshield was cracked, and trailer was garbage. Seller was asking 12,500, said he had an offer last summer for 13k, but would take 11k now. I passed. I did learn something today, I want a baja 250/270. If anybody knows of a good clean one for sale let me know.

Yea sold my F18 last week and I had a few I liked but they were junk in person. I like the baja 250s cause they are big with one motor, that being said a Formula 271 would fit the bill too. I don't want twins.

79Formula

Welcome to the world of used boats!!! My family looked at used boats for a number of years -- everyone claimed it was spotless, flawless, rarely run (hour meter was disconnected), a little gel coat work (gashes in the hull), outdrive recently refreshed (put a little paint on it)-- you name it I think I/we saw it. I have come to these conclusions -- show me a picture of the bilge and the outdrive -- if either is slightly dirty or dinged - run like the wind. How a prior owner keeps the parts that most people don't see e.g. bilge says a lot about maintenance and pride of ownership. If I see an outdrive with white chalk- run hard/hot or never cleaned - steg protector for sure run away -- what did they hit??? no reliable records -- no sale.. Above all get a survey done -- even if it is a less expensive boat.

There are just too many boats out there for sale and a great number are from owners that really know how to maintain and use a boat-- it just take a lot of work to find the one

All the best

I know what to look for once I see for myself, I learned the hard way with my $14000 18ft Formula that I sold for $4000. But I learned all about transoms, stringers, floors, motors and drives.

Doesn't have to be a baja but a 24x7 just doesn't have enough room. Sweet boat though.

I don't know the distance you're willing to travel to look at a boat but this is a members on here boat that Might fit the bill. It is alittle older but I believe he has all the documents, the entire boat is clean as can be. Was a fresh water boat most of it's life and I believe 2 owner. I don't know him personally but I had a friend who was interested in it and the guy was very straight up with him. Sent him very detailed pics ect.
