A Little Carb vs EFI info

^^^^ I just wrote a story about this 3 months ago for the only marine industry magazine in the USA. I write in the section called "The Performance Corner " My articles always seem to be located in the back of the magazine.
Yes its a small magazine but we charge nothing for the 2,000 printed copies that goes out to mainly the USA marine dealerships and a lot of marine mom & pop marine repair shops that have been in the business for many years, some of them 40 years.
It also goes out to alot marine related manufacturing & related businesses like CDI Electronics, Sierra aftermarket marine parts, Yamaha outboards, UFLEX, Mallory, Quicksilver Remanufacturing, Jasper engines, Wyotech schools, MMI and so on, . It also goes out to 3 other countries plus has a free online link to read every copy - it is printed 4 times a year.
Anyways here is the link to the magazine below - hopefully you like it. Keep in mind I have to write for the entry level marine tech just starting out to the very advance marine tech. Very hard to do and to make an interesting storyline for everyone, but I try. Here is the link below - read my column if you like or any other storylines in the magazine. This is part 1 of an EFI story that I wrote starting on page 23 .

Interesting....I switched from carb to EFI expecting BIG hp gains. Was disappointed, identical peak hp. What I did gain was better starting, great idling around docks, stronger mid-range and vastly improved fuel economy (economy..kinda of a funny word to use on 1150hp motors). Mine was a direct swap out 850 Pro-systems carb for a Fast throttle body and 8 injectors off fuel rail into intake port. Everything else was the same (intake manifold, massive intercooler,M4 Procharger)

Yep, carbs are cool , its just too bad when the air density, elevation, barometric pressure, air temp and water temp change etc they would have to be re-tuned to maintain there edge and driveability!!

Strange how my 33 footer twins with carbs used only 10 more gallons of fuel the same distance going 40 to 45 compaired to my Sunsation Aggressor 25' realy 23.5. Aggressor single engine EFI same trip more like 30 to 35. Then there was my 235 Seebold carbed got like 4 to 7 MPG.

So what would happen it you ran a throttle body with small injectors built in to cool the incoming air and then ran port injectors to finish the job. Should have the same or more HP than a carb with the computer control of FI. Better millage too.

Well I will say once you drive the new direct injection EFI in a marine app and hopefully coming soon in bigger engines - you will look at all of this current marine EFI / MPI as 10 years behind the times.
I drove the new the Volvo Penta Direct injection V-6 240 hp and I sworn it was a 350 MAG MPI engine in a. 21 ft Regal 52 mph. It would beat the small block 350 in 1/8 mile drag race with now problems from a standing start. That motor idled so smooth and accelerated very fast and crisp.
