I have 2005 models on my boat. The only problem I had was one lower developed a knocking sound but still worked fine after about 400 hours. I replaced both with with late model lowers. No other issues.

JVC,

Can you share some pics of your new lowers? Before and after replacement pics would be great, but whatever you have is fine.

Physically they look the same unless you go for the 5.44 gear case. I looked into them but they rob power and are really meant for heavier boats.

Hi!

The 5,44 HD case is standard for Vrod 350.

Merc upgraded the gearcase on the early verados..one thing you pay attention to is the exhaust plate and water tube corrossion issues.it can be very costly if this wasn't addressed . the water tube leaks at the joint where it goes into the exhaust plate..I have done many and versdos DID have issues with this.
