That canal has had some of the best boats ever made on it between Everglades Marina and the 15th st boat ramp......One of the old owners of SP had a 43 Cary named after the restaurant as seen in this 1986 Poker Run video:

Pretty soon this country is going to be one homogeneous string of corporate entities. No more personality, each town will consist of Home Depot, Sports Authority, TGIF's, Applebys, Michaels, Cheesecake Factories, Wallmarts, Staples, Hampton Inns, CVSs, et al. Stay home folks, same sh!t, different place.

Cool story on Southport, one of the current owners started there as a busboy 30+ years ago. Owner financed a buyout for him.

-----Every time someone mentions the Southport I get extremely thirsty and hungry for peel-and-eat shrimp. Its one of my all time favorite hangouts, even if it has changed a little from the "Ted Twist" days........Bill S

That stinks. I liked sitting on the porch at the Raw Bar and watching boats pull in. That was a tight spot for some of the bigger Sport Fishers in there. It was always busy, I will never stay at Hampton Inn again!
