91 PQ 290 enticer vs 91 Baja 29 OL?
Looking at these 2 boats.
The PQ has 502's, 450 hrs, all original interior/exterior, motors, etc....very nice 08 trailer.
The baja has 500 hrs on boat, 50 hrs on fresh and nicely painted and chromed 454's, upgraded dash, controls, but still in very nice original-like condition.
Both boats are comparable in condition and were both very well taken care of.
Would you lean toward original 502's and $3000 cheaper on the pq, or the fresh 454's in the baja?
Both boats are local to me. $26k-29k
I had a PQ 270 laser so i guess in partial to PQ.

'91 29 Outlaw? Wouldn't that be the old 290 with the wider beam (9'?)? If so I'd go with the PQ.

Always liked those 290's. That is a clean looking ride.

I would want to know details about who built the engines and what parts went into them. You don't often see people running tunnel rams and twin 4-bbls on marine engines. Not to say it can't be done, but to me that speaks of someone getting a buddy who builds drag or truck pull motors to put together a couple of motors for his boat. The guy may or may not know what he is doing when it comes to building a boat motor. Plenty of horror stories about motors going kaboom after a short time because they were not built / tuned properly.
How many hours on the drives for the Baja?
I own an older Baja, and like it, but objectively I have to say that the PQ's I have seen are better rigged boats.

Thanks fellas. The baja owner gave me the engine builders name and number.......told me to give him a call to get the details straight from the builder.
Here's the '91 PQ with 502's....http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...er-o62040.html
I also found a '90 PQ 290 enticer with original twin 454's, 400 hrs, pretty much the same 'alleged' condition as the '91 PQ and maintained perfectly throughout the years.
BUT, the asking price is less than $20k....and less than $19k....and less than $18,001. lol.
I asked him for info on maintenance, service, and whatnot...here's his response:
"Lets start with service. Oil changes are done every year. I use Wix filters and Brad Penn PG1 20W50 racing oil. The lower units are serviced with Mobil1 Synthetic Gear 75W90. by the way I'm a lube engineer and have done this for years with all my boats without a single engine or drive failure. The raw water pumps were changed out last spring along with the thermostats, plugs caps, rotors, bellows boots, and gimbal bearings at the same time per regular maintenance every three years. Winterization's are done by flushing all sea water out with tap water, draining blocks and exhaust manifolds to remove any sand or silt, then filling with approved antifreeze -100. engines are fogged fuel system is treated (sea foam). head is cleaned and serviced (head has never been used for number 2).
Storage is outside shrink wrapped in the winter. I use moth balls in cockpit, cabin, and engine compartments and have never had any stowaways. Summers have been at Marina. She has a barrier coat and bottom painted due to me slipping her every year. Right now I have her in storage with a full trailer cover bought new last year.
Five years ago I replaced all bushings and pins for the gimbal rings with new trim and limit sensors and switches, new gauges at the same time along with new bilge pump.
I have no issues with her. everything works (i haven't used the fresh water so that is unknown) she uses no oil throughout the season. She has no leaks. she is very dependable and fuel efficient if you know how to run her. she has a tie bar for the drives and running 23 pitch props. the port trim sensor needs to be adjusted haven't done that yet and noticed it the other day. limit switches are set correctly.
I'll have to get you some pictures I have old ones but I replaced the oil resivors for the drives to the new updated version last fall.
I have no objections to a survey hull is dry and solid, engines run strong and are tight, drives are in good shape along with props. " end quote
I'm confused with the reference to sea water, because this boat is no where near salt.
