The marine OEMs recommend a cranking battery for starting and running of the engine(s) and a deep cycle to run whatever accessories. Also no more wingnut connections - battery cable to battery connections.
They recommend higher MCA / CCA for MPI engines than carb engine. but will add the bigger the motor, the higher the compression ratio, the bigger the HP requires a higher amp rating of the battery.
Also the size of the battery cables per length is very important as well

The "real small" ones that I feel are the best are Stark Power Ultra Start. I have recently purchased two Ultra Start 1200CA, 1000CCA batteries - 4.25 # each for my Skater to replace my very heavy Optima batteries. They are the newest technology, LiFePO4. They have circuitry that keeps reserve capacity for starting when used to power ancillaries. The also include their specific required charger. Check them out at Stark Power.
