Default $75,000 and a mission....

O.K. bored board members here is the hypothet:

You are given $75,000 to build/buy a boat. The object is to end up with a boat 28' or better and capable of a safe 100 mile trip in the ocean. Top speed should be 80+. Cabin and cockpit should be comparable to a new boat. Graphics should be at least minimalist, but clean. The only work you are allowed to do yourself is installing engines and drives.

Question -- What would you buy/build, and how would you rig it? What would you estimate your final cost to be?

I think it can be done under that price. (The impetus for this is the new $150,000 Fountain 35 footers with 500efi's that run 75mph.)

I'd probably start with a Sonic (or AT) or a Cigarette 28SS, although the 80MPH might be an issue with any of them.

The freeboard on the Sonic is hard to beat.

Sorry, KaamaScarab30. I don't think that $75K is enough money to do all of that. You could build a 80+mph boat (Eliminator comes to mind) , but I wouldn't try going 100 miles in the ocean with it.

Just my (uneducated) two-cents...

I'd buy DJD's Flat Deck. Don't know about 80 mph, but I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a 100 mile run in the ocean.

FYI... that $150k fountain has 496ho's, not 500 efi's.

How about the F1 Warlock 29' World Class. One just ran in the LOTO shootout at 79mph with a 500hp. I believe they are around $80k. I think it was powerboat mag that had an article on it not too long ago. I think it comes with hydraulic steering and kplanes, too.

I'm pretty sure Warlock will sell them un-rigged too so you can put your own power in. That ought to get you under $75k.

Buy a Name Brand
Older Cigarettes Per example, or an Old race Boat and add an Interior to your Liking! That way you get a Custom Boat in the End!
