A bit more than 7 hours. It should be easy to break with today's technology

That is the World Class Nautical chart I remember.

You start the race and go to the turn boat.......and Then....you come back. Great strategy too!

This is what Offshore Racing used to be like......

All long distance racers in miles. We raced in the Atlantic, in the Bahamas and the Pacific Ocean and last but not least, the Great Lakes.

Of course if you were looking for some adventure, you traveled with your boat to Europe or South America.

Here are some ads, showing the great interest that boat manufacturers had in... proving the products could operate safely in open ocean conditions.

CORRECTION. The single engine record was set in 1967, with the 28 foot Formula powered by a single 450 Mercruiser by Dick Genth.

Time 5 hours and 23 minutes for an average of 47MPH over a 253 mile course.

That boat is pictured on this thread as #99. Post number 28 on page 3.

Over the years the course was given as different mileage. At one time the race started and finished at the World's Fair Marina.

Billy Frenz, using more accurate modern technology has determined that the course we run on is 271 miles.

So anyone with a single engine boat that finishes and wins the class, will be the new Around Long Island record holder for single engines.

I just love the smart azz comments on the right side.

The names that are referred to here are:

Billy......Bill Wishnick
Brownie........Is there anyone who doesn't know this name? Alan Brown
Bobby.......Bobby Moore, the world's first throttle man.

All in all a really good crew for offshore racing in that era.

They were all my heroes.

We are hearing from the top class guys. How about all the Fountain guys......are you still coming?

Rally guys.....contact Billy.

The free HORBA Tee shirts are being given to only the registered entrants as of August 1st. Get moving guys.

Three weeks from tomorrow, the boats will be en-route to the dry pits.

The new boat decals for the PARTICIPANTS are being made now. Wherever you boat, people will know you are an old school racer.
