Lake Michigan can be the roughest water
It can change from dead calm to 6' in minutes

We boat out of the Thames river in new London , Ct. Intersection of long island sound, fishers island sound and block island sound. Run thru places like "the race" and "plum gut" regularly. Rough out there most days. Fun tho! Just took the ski out to the race last night!

I'm with flatlander bill and indy. Long Island, Block Island, and Fishers Island Sound for me. And yes The Race can get rough! I don't have the biggest boat in the fleet but I've been out well past Montauk into the real Atlantic. Running through some of the rollers out there are like riding a roller coaster.

Pacific Ocean here.
Standard run Marina Del Rey to avalon Bay Catalina island. About 45-50 miles each way.
Extended runs Marina Del rey - New port. about 75 each way
MDR to Sandiego...about 200 each way
These are my standard ocean trips.
As a guy that grew up boating in Chicago- I fear Lake Michigan far more than the Pacific Ocean.

Now East and West coast of Florida. And Yesssss OFF shore. lol.. I'm not happy unless I can't see the land. About 15-20 miles out. But with all due respect to the "offshore" boaters. There is nothing worse then the Mich. It's a pond. OK. but it can get meaner then an ugly witch with a period.

I've ran Lake Michigan, Erie, Huron/Saginaw Bay, and St. Clair. I'll let you know what I think of this Long Island water tomorrow afternoon when my sea trial concludes.
