Default I Need New PCM? #866091t05

Just had my boat in the shop for the dreaded 2 beep warning and long alarm at over 4300 RPM. They are telling me that the PCM is bad but I am sceptical to say the least. It's 2500 to fix but I don't think that will cure it because everyone that has had a PCM replaced has told me it turned out to be something simple and the PCM was fine. My question is how often do these things go bad and like an ECM in a car can it not be repaired if that is the problem? Just looking for advice before I tell them to bend me over. I also had IAC valves replaced because that was suppose to be the problem but then it turned into money.

Found a place that will diagnose the PCM and see if the IAC chip (their words) failed. Repair for 500.00. Anyone have experience with them?

I see that but 2500 includes all his work to diagnosing problem I already paid for. What a racket.

I'd swap the PCM's from one engine to another and see if the problem follows the PCM.

They said they did and it cured the port side so I will have it shipped off and see if it can be repaired first.

Post your complete scan up here and include freeze frame history

These is for a 2006 NON DTS 496 HO MAG would this be correct ?

I would have to check on Monday availability and price - Might be able to sell you one for 1500 to 1600 bucks to your door. I will have to check on it to make sure the 2016 price increases has not happened yet. Brand new straight from Mercruiser.

But before selling anything, I would like to know also what PWR 1 Volts reads in your scan ? If it is anything more or less than 5 your problem is there most likely not the PCM.

no bull you have to watch out swapping ECM's / PCM's because you can hurt it as something could have caused a driver to go out inside the computer . Bad coils can do this for just one example and voltage spikes is another. Also battery power still on while swapping out is another.
