I love that analogy, buy Skaters in bulk!

IMHO - A major factor in Ron's yearly turnover is the thoroughness of his builds - the paint jobs he orders are timeless and appealing to everyone vs some of the wild paint jobs that require a specific buyer to appeal to.... that, and Ron has the reputation of putting the appropriate power packages in his boats to make them user friendly and run extremely well.

Regarding the buying in Bulk... don't know if anyone else notices but a good many people wear their Skater wear proudly ( and rightly so)... most pics of Peter are in a Flight Club t-shirt - LOL ( rule#1 in business - support those that support you with loyalty)

Sometimes it might be a case where someone else puts a big deposit on one and then changes directions some someone like Ron scoops it up at the reduced price.

The dealer funds the build and is having the boat built for the sole purpose of reselling it.

aka "speculating" that a buyer will come purchase it when its completed.

Kind of like you. Buying stuff, putting some money into it, fixing it up and then speculating a buyer will purchase it and you'll make a profit.

Or hulls that are just sitting around in the shop taking up space.

Instead of doing this thread on "spec", can we put some actual numbers out there???

Say for even numbers that MSRP is $1M and cost is $600K
The final buyer who just bought the boat paid $800k.
So all in all there is $200k profit.
Does skater take all of this or is it divided up between them and Ron who took the financial burden????

So, my question is, what is Skater giving Ron to take this financial burden????? If the answer is nothing than skater is not a very friendly business partner and quite frankly I don't believe it for a second.

I'll take a guess you are not going to get an exact answer, much the same as any "business" is not exactly forthcoming with there margins either. I'm sure guys like Ron are not writing the full check at the beginning, but making progress payments along the way, being offered a fairly decent discount due to being a very regular client, and then taking a calculated gamble on selling the boat for a "profit" at the end. I say good on him, the more skaters on the water the better IMHO.

If Ron bought an MTI, I wouldn't have any reason to sell it!!!
