Kourwinns Liberator ?
I was wondering if any has experiance with a 201 liberator circa. 1988, currently runs a stock 260 mag about 53mph. However I am making a deal on a '98 502MPI with a procharger and new low water pick-up Bravo. I belive this tub was originally sold with a king cobra option. The question is has anyone run one? is the boat too heavy in the stern? will the hull handle poorly? if so at what speed? P.S. I have too keep this boat the wife loves it and won't ride in my fun stuff. Thanks to everyone for any info.

Keith, I owned a 1988 FourWinns Liberator. It had a 460 Ford and OMC King Cobra. Top speed about 62. I built a 540 n/a Ford for it and it was a monster. Dynoed about 625 hp and 710 ft lbs torque. I didn't have a gps in that boat but it did (easily) bury an 80mph speedo. It had 1.43 gears and a 25" Ballistic prop. At wot I would occassionally get some chine walking , but drop the tabs just a bit and it would steady out (kinda like training wheels).

I had one. Great boat. I beat the $hit out of it and it never missed a beat. I had the same power as you so I have no additional info. Shoots a hell of a roostertail though

I have a 92 251, 26'2". Single 454 310 horse King Cobra. Mine is the heaviest of the ones built with the least power for its size. I get 53 on GPS turning a 19 pitch Merc Rev4 at 4300 rpm. As far as quality, mine looks brand new. No pulling stitches in upholstry, no stress cracks, no blisters. Hull looks new except for maroon qbove rub rail has finally started to fade. You wont find more room in a equally sized boat. The down side is that its a semi performance boat. It has very wide lifting strakes alom=ng the outer edge and a shallow V with a rouded keel. Great boat for lakes but big water is not its thing even though its heavy. If you come down hrd enough to get the outer strakes into the water, you hit VERY hard. The boat was a compromie as my wife wanted a cruiser and I wanted speed. Thinking of new graphics and a 502 crate motor in the spring.
The 91-93 models do have an updated deck, cabin, andcuddy. Not sure on the hull design. If you have any other questions feel free to Email me and Ill send you a phone number so we can talk.

I have a good friend who ran one for several years and I have quite a bit of seat time in it. It was a 1989 201 liberator with king cobra and a slightly built 350 chevy in it......it would run about 55 mph or so on the speedo and man was it LOUD!! Good hull, it handled chop really well. I KNOW this hull would handle more power than had in it. It never wavered...never chine walked....never did anything unpredictable.
mopower, I'll bet your's was a 211 Liberator. Much different hull than the 201.

Yeah Waterfoul , it was a 211. I had that sucker 7 years and actually I think it was more solid than my current Formula . Mine was the last of the squared off windshields. Best part was , I sold it for more than I paid for it. And I still have that 540 Ford engine.
P.S. Mine never chine walked with the 460 but put that much power in it and leave that little bit of boat in the water, catch a little wake from the side and it would start.
