Default OT: Computer guys.....a little help??

Seems every other time I turn my computer on it does something stupid.

Now, when in Explorer if I click on a link, it puts it into a little box that I have to maximize to see the page. Kinda a *****. Also, how do you stop re-directs and pop-ups??? Seems most sites have them these days...even a medical prescription site I use now and then and some offshore sites I will not mention (not this one, thank God!!!).

Any ideas how to get the pages to load up full screen? Stop re-directs and pop up adds??

Mike

I've been screwing around all day with this computer.....now OSO doesn't recognize me when I go to the site. I have to enter my name and password to get in. NO ONE uses my computer but me so I like that it simply went into OSO without my doing anything. What did I do now???

Rain Check? Hell yes!!!! You tell me where and when and I'm there!!!

As far as the computer goes, I try not to put anything INTO it!!! Spilled a coke on the keyboard a while back but it didn't seem to do anyting bad!! LOL!!

I'm wondering if I have a virus of some kind? My windows don't open centered on the screen either.....the X you use to close a window is now hidden up on the upper right corner where I can't get to it with the pointer. And I can't move the window with the mouse to get at it. I have to minimize it with the little - one and close it that way. Makes it way hard to surf!!!!!

You may want to get Norton Systemworks. You can usually find a deal with a rebate and pick it up reasonably.

If you don't have anti-virus software ... you should.

You get many diagnostic tools that might help you.

Just in case ... make sure your data files are backed up.

Good luck ...

Foul: Try a search using the keywords Pop Up windows. I think Troutly put it up. Maybe Pop Up advertising will work for the search. There were two programs that were listed to stop all the pop ups. If you right click on your exporer icon then go to Shortcut and there is a "run" selection you can select Normal window, minimized window, or Maximized window. Check the one you want. Hope that helps.

Jon, right click on what? The big E icon on my desktop? If I do that and hit the shortcut it simply puts a shortcut icon on my desk top. I hate being computer dum....iliterate....stuped....

Sounds to me like you picked up something. Try doing a system restore back a few days at a time untill the problem goes away. You can get to system restore by getting to acceserories then system tools then system restore.

Foul,

Run a virus scan first, who knows. Here is an online one: http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Second, find a pop up killer program. I use one called PopUp Killer available at http://download.com.com/3000-2366-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1

Third, IE saves the window size and position everytime you close a window. You may have shut down the last IE browser window on a popup window and now it restarts in that same position and size. Pretty common when visiting porn sites (I hear).

With only one IE window open, go to <Tools>...<Internet Options> and click <Use Blank> to set your homepage to blank. Click <OK> in the Internet Options dialogue box then move and resize your window how you like it. Drag the edges of IE with your mouse to resize, IE 5.X has a bug when using maximize for saving window size and position. Exit IE. Re-open IE and change your default homepage back to where you had it (I'm assuming Offshoreonly )

Fourth, it sounds like your OSO Profile is not set to use cookies or IE cannot save the OSO cookie to your disk. Make sure that your OSO Profile has "Browse board with cookies" set to "Yes" -and- check your available disk space on your hard drive as well as the permissions in whatever directory you have IE configured to save your cookies.

The only way to stop redirects is to disable the use of Java in IE. You probally don't want to do that.

Good Luck,
-Chris
