Question 42 Fountain, Trip 502 Mags(415HP), Bravos: How Fast??

Just like the subject, How fast?

The owner says "Just over 100", I told him he's full of ****.
My guess is somewhere in the 80's.

A buddy of mine is looking at it, and he wants to know the real deal before he plunks down the gas money for a test ride.

Thanks!

Hey Daze,

Why not try this approach, have the seller put the gas in the boat for the trial run. Seller takes your buddy out and have your buddy tell the seller, "I'll gladly pay for the gas after the trial run, but if this boat will not do or will not come close to the 100 MPH, then I'm not payin!"

Now, see what kind of reaction you get from the owner. I agree, I would have to be on the boat to see the 100 MPH myself.

if it is a non stepped hull you could expect somewhere in the low to mid 70's, and with a stepped hull although i have never seen any stepped hulls with triple 502 415hp they have all been 500s i would think upper 70's low 80's. hope this helps.

Thanks guys!

I don't know what the original motors were or even if it was trips or twins. I know I've seen the boat at our marina for some time now and now it's been redone inside and outside and has 3 brand new, fresh 502Mags and bravos.

The numbers you guys mentioned are in line with what my estimates were, maybe I'm too high with 80's but no way in hell is it a 100mph boat.

This is exactly the confirmation I/we needed. Problem is, my buddy knows exactly what he wants and is not going to even waste the time or money to be let down.

Thanks a million!

A few years ago I blew past a '91 42 Fountain with Trip 500hp's in my 28 Obsession w/ T502's (in flat fresh water). I ran little over 80 on radar in my Obsession. My guess is he was doing about 75 to 78 mph tops.

Oh ya, as I looked back I saw one of his buddies messing with the throttles and trim trying to get more speed out of it.

If you do go for a ride on it, bring your GPS, it cant be to hard to tinker with a speedoneter, look at odometers....
