1990 28 Apache brave
Hey everyone,New to the site getting ready to by my first big boy boat.Had a few river boats in the past, couple jets and a 22' checker with o/b.My buddy has a 90 28' brave in nice shape been kept under a car port and covered for most of its life.I have been in the boat a few times and seems solid.Has fresh twin 540's with bravo's.has a few issues, needs a new hatch on the deck, said it blew off one day but he made a temp to keep it covered,a few electrical gremlins with the drives and tabs, think maybe just ground issues.Biggest problem is the fuel tank is oxidzing on the inside from the great fuel we have and fuel filters start to clog in about and hr or so of running the pressure drops from 7psi to around 3 to 4,so u have to kinda limp her in.Is it a major tear down to replace the tank?I have the capability to do the job but don't want to have to cut the boat up to replace it,Thanks for any info.

I'm guessing the tank is a belly tank, which means cutting up the floor, removing the tank (likely in foam), spending $1000 on a tank, $100 on 2 part foam, $100-300 on cloth and resin, and a bunch of time. I just did one, and it's not a couple hour job.

Tank is from RDS Aluminum in Florida, they made the original tank and still had the blueprints, I just gave them a tank model number, capacity, and credit card number. Three weeks later a semi with a new tank magically appeared!
You may be able to get down by the sending unit and read the label on that Apache, I'm not certain who they sourced their fuel tanks from. I'd highly suggest asking on the Apache forum where, specifically, the tank is located. I'm guessing it's between the cabin bulkhead and engine bay bulkhead, but that's pure speculation. Measure everything a half dozen times before you start cutting the floor! If it's foamed in, a bread knife and an electric chainsaw will be your best friends. Then you'll have to get a steel cable or a poly strap under the end of the tank, hook it to a 4x4 post, set that on some bottle jacks placed on plywood, and start pumping the jacks to break the bond on the bottom foam.

Make sure you dont run the boat with only 3 pounds od fuel pressure, you might get melted piston running like that, giving you much more problem and $ to spend on top and above your fuel tank job!!!
