Thoughts on a 39 foot catamaran with quad 2.5 outboards?

. Those hulls seem happiest with big power and Arnesons, great boat with lots of room but not your typical cat. Build quality was hit and mis, I've seen really nice ones and ones that developed major issues.

Ask the people who designed and built the original hull. They are still in business.

That hull is heavy and not the greatest cat design. Takes big power to make those run. Even then they are not even close in speed to the same setup Skater, etc. The O/B 2.5's will be a big disappointment on that hull.

I dont know anything about outboard cats but I would Think 2 400R outboards would be a much better choice. Half the weight and half the drag. Plus you could Bolt on Jack plates and go . I'm thinking Rigging that would take all of 8 Hours max. No need to modify anything.

Also keep in mind when mounting OB's exposed to the tunnel you will probably need some sort of pod to deflect the water. They will not last long mounted in an open tunnel without it. You need to protect from the cav plate up

Thanks for the replies. That is the Ocean Express I was thinking of (post 10). The other idea is inline arnesons with zf drop box. 750-800 supercharger BBC's. I don't want an interior, I'd probably just rip it out.

If the pics below is the cat you're referring to, I think it's a nice cat with lots of potential. True it won't be very quick, but it appears you're already expecting that.
The $10K asking is fair and would be a great base for doing a conversion. This cat is super wide with seating 4 across in the rear and 3 upfront!
I would do the makeover in phases. The first year, I would ask Glassdave (OSO ID) to remove the hull-extension box. Put the quad motors and enjoy
The second phase, a bit costlier, is to remove the deck and remove the interior beds, cushions, plumbing, etc and make it a simple 39' cat
Then replace the deck with a lightweight flat deck with wrap windshield (Boat Customs)
replace the interior with lightweight seating
This would be a great setup with offshore wave crushing capabilities
