How much $$$ to rebuild 2.5 powerhead
I lost an idgnition coil and that in turn fried one clylinder, it needs a sleeve etc.
How much should this cost ? This is my first real outboard.
Should I send it to Lake X or where ?

Offshore Concepts in St Cloud, is THE person to rebuild OB powerheads AND all your dial in needs. It is Big John Vandestel formerly of Lake X but got laid off and started his own shop.

There are two ways as I understand it to resleave those engines. There is the standard way that they do the 200's and 225's and so on, however the 2.5efi's are done differently. You want to make sure you get the I think it is Nickasill (sp) sleeves as they will give you the highest hp. You can call a guy Matt Kieser at Matts Merc. Service in Kingston, MA that can give you the low down on all that. He is very good and has re-sleaved a bunch of outboards for a friend of mine. I am not sure if he does outboards any more but he can certainly help give you the info you will want to make sure you ask.

I'm still waiting to hear how much. I know it depends on if it's a simple re-ring, and hone, or a complete rebuild, all bearings, reeds, pistons, ect, but what price ranges are to be expected. Form x dollars for a simple rebuild done in time, to y dollars, waited too long and everything is trashed.
