OT/sorta... Truck Tires ?
Is anyone running and/or especially towing with Nitto Tires/Terra Grappler?? They are a sweet looking tire, and they advertise they are beefy in their D & E load ratings, "ideal for 3/4 and 1 ton rigs."
I currrently have the factory tires on my 3/4 ton Avalanche, but I am about to step up to a 17" rim, and go to some different tires. I know the BFG All Terrain KO is a proven tire, but I also like different. Can anyone vouch for Nitto Tires? If so, what size do you have experience with? What load rating? What truck? What are you towing? Anything else you can input is SUPER appreciated!!!

Are those the tires that are directional kind've look like an arrow?? They are really low profile?? The 36 Baja Outlaw tour boat has these tires on the tripple axle trailer. mounted on like 18" Boyds I believe. They look sweeeeeeet!! They don't seem to have any problem using them as trailer tires I don't see why you'd have problems with them on your avalanche.

Thanks Tank. I am concerned about the sidewall strength. Last year, on my Tahoe; I went to an industrial grade Goodyear, WORKHORSE EXTRA GRIP), for 1 day, and then I took them back. I thought they looked better than BFGs, and the descriptions and load rating remarks led me to believe they were very stiff, and would handle well. I did not even try towing with them. THEY WERE HORRIBLE. The Tahoe felt dangerous with them on, much less towing with them. As soon as I forked over the cash for the BFGs, I knew I should not have strayed, and I should have listened to my buddy CheckmateF1 all along.
Well, I am offering myself up for another shot. The Nitto Tires ads grab a lot of attention, but I do not see many on the road. (See Truckin' magazine.) Their website needs A LOT of updating, which also leads me to believe they may not be up to par. I want some hard core proof or testimonials that these are better or at least as good as BFGs before I bite.
Thanks.

I am having the same dilema, I have a Silverado HD it had Firestones on it, I put Goodyear wrangler RT/S on it thinking it was a good tire, and it is borderline dangerous. I never liked Firestone, but I am thinking of going back.
Let me know what you come up with. Or anyone for that matter who has switched tires successfully. Oh by the way, I put Yokohamas on it first and those were terrible to, so I then went to Goodyear, and want to switch again. Please help as this has all been in the last 3,000 miles and is getting expensive !!!!!!!

Obnoxus.
I know I am eating my own dogfood here, but the BFG All Terrain KO will offer you no disappointment at all. I have 100% confidence in them. It is a phenominal tire. You pay a premium price for it though. In all likelyhood, I will end up with BFG A/T KOs. I am just willing to get some input on the Nittos since I have a little time before purchasing. I want something different, damnet!!

29 SCARAB, Dual axle trailer
2001 Yukon XL 1/2 ton
10x22" ANTERA rims
Shod with Nitto 305/45-22 Extreme Force
No problems, great handling tire, and quiet
If I had a choice between the Nitto's over the BFG's, I would stay with the Nitto's
My experience with BFG's, have been that they tend to wear sooner than most other brands...no bashing, just been my personal experience
Go with Nitto's, I am sure you won't be dissapointed, my other truck tire choice would be the Pirelli Scorpion Zero, I've had a set on a Mercedes ML, size 295/40-20 for over 30,000 miles, they are a little more costly, but worth it.

Thanks BB. I appreciate the input. Unfortunately you are running low profile tires, with sidewalls built for speed, and therefore they are comparably quite strong. I am going with All Terrain Off-Road tires, with a tall profile, and I need to verify the sidewalls on these bad boys are built like BFGs.

Well if the low pro's handle the load, then the taller A/T's are usually equal. I am in the high performance tire and wheel industry, don't deal with too much truck stuff, but I also previously had a 92 sub with 285/60-18 Pirelli Scorpion Zero's, and I was very pleased.
I will give a call to one of my customers that also deals with alot of truck applications and tires and see what the low down recommendation he would give
I post back in a few miniutes, and let you know what he says

Brian, just got off the phone with Nick from Wheel Warehouse out here in CA., and he said the Nitto A/T and the BFG A/T are quite comparable, both wear the same, it handles good, and is load rated the same as the BFG, and is quiet also.
He said that Nitto must be doing a good job marketing them, because people are coming in asking for that specific tire, and he has had no complaints.
He did say that the BFG is probably better for the more Offroad type use, but on a cost bassis for general road use and for towing that the Nitto would not disappoint
Hope that help's with your decision

Check out the Parnelli Jones Dirt Grips. I am running 38 x 15.50 x 16.50 on a Hummer. Tough tire, great looking and no problem for towing trailer. BTW, it is also a great offroad tire.

When I got my Dodge this spring the dealer had just put new tires on it, Dunlop A/T Radial Rover's. I have put every mile on these tires (about 5000 so far) and I love them!!! I went thru 3 sets of Bridgestones on my last truck, I like them a lot (got 150,000 miles out of 3 sets, not bad for the way I drive). But I'm pretty sure that when it comes time for new tires, I will be looking to replace these Dunops with the same tire. I like the way they handle (good sidewall), I like the way they ride, smooth....and I love their traction. Wet, dry, slippry ramp, gravel, they just grab on and go.
That's my .02 worth.

My 99 F 150 Lariat 4x4 came with 17" Goodyear ATS. I haul heavy loads of tile in it, pull the boat, and my travel trailer. Two of the tires still on the truck are originals, coming up on 96,000 miles. I can't believe how these tire wear. The other two were replace from running over crap on job sites. They also grip pretty well on mud and slimy boat ramps. They aren't cheap though.

My 97 F-250 has Michelin LTX M/S LT265/75-16's. I have about 75K miles on them with lots of life left. When these go, I'll put the same thing on again.

I swear by my Michelin's. They have a great looking deep lug tread. But most of all, they work great in mud, snow, ice, wet roads, etc. - no noise going down the road. I tow the boat and carry an 1800# truck camper on them, not to mention heaping piles of logs. The truck will squat but the tires don't. I rotate them every 8-10k mi. when I remember. I will definitely stick with them.

After some more research, I am going to go with 16" tires. All of the 17" tires are only 'C' load rated. I definately want to go with 'D' or 'E' rated tires. I think I am leaning toward the BFGoodrich All Terrain KO. I just don't think you can go wrong there.
BFG A/T KO LT265/75R16/D has an overall diameter of 31.8 inches, with a 3042lb rating at 65psi.
Nitto TG LT265/75R16 has an overall diameter of 31.54 inches, with a 3000lb rating at 65psi.
These are both D rated tires. I am going with ARE Outlaw II rims to match the boat trailer. I will post pics when all is said and done. Thanks for all of your inputs guys! More is always appreciated!

Sydwaz, I have a 3/4 ton GMC I used to tow my AT, now it is in a hi & dri. I recently put a set of Terra Grapplers and new style Aluminum GMC wheels on my 2000 Classic body style 2500 series truck. The size I chose is 285/75R16 D load range. I am impressed with the tire, handles well in the rain and at "unsafe speeds"!! Besides they look Cool!! I bought them from Tire Rack, they gave me the best price and shipping was included!! They even offered a road hazard insurance! the # is 800-477-8017
