Correct, this has changed in the last couple years (documenting in OH to avoid sales tax).

Paid OH sales tax and their $63 registration sticker. It's a matter of avoiding $900 per year in KY property tax (on top of sales tax) for that registration sticker.

Agree, at my marina in KY there are a lot of boats documented in OH, IN and TN. Mine is documented in KY and KY gets a list from the USCG and we have to pay property tax on it. The cost of documented boats in KY started after the fire chief in Anchorage, KY need more money for his department and noticed all the huge boats near him.

The guy next to me is in IN and pays nothing, and the only way for KY to tax is to walk the docks on Jan 1 and make assessment.
