I wonder why Merc is pushing the Overhead cam setup when GM decided against it when they designed the LS based engines? Dont get me wrong i like the technology of it...but i remember reading an article where GM was deciding on which way to go when it came to the pushrod engines and the decided to keep the push rods due to the fact the overhead cam engine need to rev higher to get the HP numbers and the "seat of the pants" feel of the overhead cam engines felt that they needed to rev the engine higher to get the same torque out of them compared to a pushrod V8 (again this was an article i read somewhere so dont hold me to this)
Remember that GM did have the DOHC engine in the ZR1 back in the early 90's ....GM claims they got rid of it due to cost and OBDII issues with emissions though......but since the new GenV LS motor is coming out in Jan and still continues to be pushrod i have to wonder if the OHC setup is worth it......

I'm guessing they went DOHC because the motor spends a lot more time at 6-7500rpm then it would if its a car and we all know how much pushrods love high rpms for long periods of time.
As for this engine the writing was on the wall, as Mercury released jus the DOHC heads at PRI last yr, one could connect the dots and see it wasn't to long before it was in a boat.
One other thing to think about is if the 7.0l is making 750hp NA what will boost do? My calculations say 1k at 4-5psi with a motor that ways the same as a iron head SBC.
