Yes, it was a rigging issue and/or metal failure.

But it illustrates the point of why the Seven Marine motors we developed.

Comparable power/performance with less infrastructure.
Sometimes 20% less.
Sometimes 33% less.

Well, I imagine the culprit of that might be a wide-beam boat doing high speed turns that leans enough to pull the outside props out of the water. Bouncing off the limiters on re-entry it fatigues/shears the shaft. Looks like the props are run fairly high as well exacerbating the issue.

I look forward to the day when someone is bored with their Verado powered Cigarette CC, and clamps on some 627s.

Not sure if you all remember but Nortech ran a 390 w triple 557's some time ago. Boat ran 88mph or so. At the time everyone was stoked. Now price out 3 motors at 60k each. 180k.
Nortech builds a 390 with quad 400's. Similar hp. Motors around 30k each. 120k total.
Seems like easy decision for me. By the way boat ran 100mph.
I have seatrialed many Intrepid's with 7 power. They are also louder than the 400r also. However there seems to be the cool factor of owing a boat with them as not everybody has them.

Triple 627 Seven-Marine Outboards would likely come close to matching that of the Quad 400s.
Also, did the Triple 557 boat have the T-Top on it for those speeds?
The Quad 400 boat did not have T-Top when it they set that speed record.

The quad 400r boat that broke 100 did have the top on. The first quad 400r boat did not have the top on when it ran 97 or so.
