Tommy - haven't been to the hide-a-way that I recall, bu did fish one of our friends sleds out of a lake up in Gaylord :(

She went down in 50 foot of water, but we got it out and she was ok ... the darn thing even started up after a whole day/night under water

tommy12 10-11-2002 03:46 PM

Centless, Exactly how do you extract a sled from 50 ft. of water??? Do you rember what lake it was??? I know last december a guy drowned in a lake right by our cabin I stay off the water unless I'm sure it's well frozen

It was Otsego (sp) Lake. The guys took a flat bottom boat and pushed it out onto the ice. (us girls were the video crew heheh) The guys in the boat used ice picks to open a spot into the ice from the point it went in (the DNR had marked it the night before) back to shore. Then we pushed the boat back out and one of the guys tossed logging tongs down until he hooked her bumper. We then hooked a come a long (way bad spelling heheh) to the longing tong chain and very slowly pulled it into shore where we brought it up out of the water. The only problem we really had was it rolled a couple of times and we were afraid we would lose it. Also I couldn't believe the number of people who stopped to watch and then chose to ride across the water where she had gone thru just the night before.

We had to get it out or the DNR was going to fine her $1,000 a day for every day it was down. We had 24 hours "grace" period before the fine started.

Ya know, I think 50 ft of water sounds deeper than it was. Prolly felt that deep to the guy bring it up though. It was about 100 yards off shore so there is no way now that I think about it .. doy ... must be that this day has been too long and it is time for me to go home from work!!!!:D
