Going to a performance CC with Verados was the smartest thing I've ever done boating wise. Quality used boats are in high demand now so your buddy should move on one when it comes up. I'm a big proponent of Concepts and Renegade.

Sold my '07 Fountain recently at a stupid low price because that's the market where I live.
Big fan of Verados, I had triples and loved them. Clean starts, no smells, no smoke and unbelieveably quiet. Everything about them worked for me, never had any issues that couldn't be solved immediately. CC's aren't the ultimate performance boat so make them comfortable and fit Verados!
I know many people love 2-strokes and they perform beautifully but 4-stroke is the current standard for outboards. If you can find something with Verados you won't regret it.
