Default Information on 2001 Pro Max 300X

I am looking at a Center Console with 2001 Pro Max 300X on it. I am assuming the year is same as boat.

I believe these are EFI motors. Any other information would be appreciated.

Good motors, but very thirsty. They use twice as much gas as the 300xs which started in 2006.

Thanks Wildman. Gas costs are not a big concern. Are these motors reliable?

Define reliable, the promax is a very reliable with the round 300 HP, The X version with an additional 40 or so hp we're much less reliable . I would first be sure out which motor it is by checking the serial numbers, the X really was a race motor turn the higher RPM and rather unlikely to find it on a center console. On the 28 skater Peridex motors would run around 10 miles an hour faster than the promax,

I am looking for starting when I turn the key and running at 4000 rpm or so. Not looking for a speed demon. I am going to look at the boat next week. its in storage.

I had 300X's on a DCB cat. They were great for going fast which is why I had them. They don't like to idle around much, they are much louder than other options, and do love fuel. I now own a CC with 300 Verados and wouldn't want the X's on it at all.

These older promax style outboards were very reliable and easy to maintain. They are lower rpm motors than the 300x's and do not get as good as fuel mileage as the 300xs's.
With basic maintenance you can get very high hour usage out of these motors.
