Tim I have never seen one in that year/style. But as an import anything is posible. If it has a turbo 350 in it you can convert it to a V-8 (bbc) relitivle easy.Dont lift it though cause the short wheel base can make them real top heavy. Is it rusty? Charlie

ragtop: its not in very good condition but running OK.
it has th400 trans.I dont believe thet it is 6 cyl from the factory.I think previous owner/s put that small engine.
I am not planning to paint, repair or do smthng to it cause will use it only for towing and fuel carrying.
the car looks very big ,I am not sure if that small engine can move that big car with a trailer behind it?!?
boat: 6000lbs + car 5000lbs +trailer 1500lbs : app total:12500lbs
?!?

Tim totaly depends on what gears are in it and tire size. if it has 4:10-1 it with small tires it will pull almost anything. but 3:08-1 is no good. It would be relitivly easy to put a 454 in though.

The "standard equipment" engine for the K5 Blazer in 1980 was a OHV 250ci 130hp @ 3800 . They offered four other optional engines, all V8's from 305 - 400 ci

thnx playn
but the engine on the car is straight 6

Playn 11-09-2002 07:42 PM

My bad, I shouldn't have put "V6"

mcollinstn 11-09-2002 10:14 PM

no, playn had it right. The 250 was an inline 6.
I doubt the trans is a TH400, but the TH350 was used in all the GM trucks up to the 3/4 tons with 454's.

Like was mentioned, 4.10 gears will pull pretty well. You'll need low range to pull anything out of a ramp - you didn't mentionn whether it was a 4x4 or not. If it isn't, then you don't have a low range and the 6 won't pull a greased hair...

How big of boat are you towing with it? (ie how long?) The weight you describe is over the tow rating for this vehicle but it could probably be done for a short distance. I doubt is has the 4.10 gears but I guess you never know.
I have an 84 K5 with 350ci V8, th400 and 4.10 gears with an automatic locker. I have never pulled anything over 9000 lbs but it did handle it alright. I was an adventure trying to stop it though (travel trailer didn't have breaks on it)

Tim,

Sounds like somwone did a motor swap. Try www.ColoradoK5.com for blazer info. I have a 73 with 8,000 original miles. It will tow but not at high speed with that weight.
