They're optional for the television in some Baja's.

I've got one in my cabin for a t.v. and the pictures great, they are durable too. I don't know about outside viewig though they aren't very bright and the glare may render it useless in the sun. $.02

Yep. We had to put the shades on the glass tops of the trans-am on the trip back from erie so i could play PS1 with the LCD screen. Works great in shade and really compact.

Cannot see in the sun. WONDERFUL for evening and night usage. Fine in the cabin day or night. Would worry about letting it see extremely cold temperatures. Extreme heat does not seem to bother it.

go to ebay and do a search on: PLANAR ct1904n
they are going for around $700 and are 19 inch diagonal.

I have a Macintosh 15" LCD monitor with S-video inputs.

I installed a couple cameras and a 5" LCD screen on my cruiser. They work great. I installed the screen overhead so glare would not be a problem. Both the cameras and LCD screen have stood up to a lot of abuse.
BTW, if you want any info on parts or sources, let me know. Just make sure your cameras will operate on 12V DC. Most come with an AC adapter, but that wont do you much good.

Check out the following website weekly for sales on LCD screens. I got a 5" screen and mount for under $100. They also have switching boxes to change between cameras. Get an unpowered manual switcher.
http://www.partsexpress.com/

I got a low light B/W camera and a color camera for under $50 each from:
http://www.x10.com/products/cameras_wired.htm

The cameras come with an AC adapter that puts out 12V DC. I just threw away the AC adapter and ran the cameras off the boats 12V DC.
I was even able to hook a camera up to my night vision scope.
