Exclamation OT-SPAM & POP UP ads

On this mornings show,CNN suggested the free download of the following programs to eliminate the majority of SPAM and POP UP ads: "add ware" and "mail washer."

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/index.html and

http://www.mailwasher.net/

I was wondering if any of you have tried them?
I am getting inundated with popups and have noticed an increase in SPAM.

Thanks
marc

Mail Washer ......works great for me. You get a chance to bounce it back to the originator.......including viruses that come up on alert..

I have used Ad-Aware for a couple of years. When I run it on friends' computers, they are shocked to learn how many companies are keeping tabs on their browsing habits, and targeting them with customized ads. Make sure to keep the ref file often, because the companies that make money off adware are always coming out with new stuff.
To get rid of pop up ads, I use a browser that is made by a company other than microsoft or netscape. Opera (http://www.opera.com) has a lot of great features, and you can turn off pop up windows. Just have to remember that some sites will use pop ups to display their pictures and other legit stuff. Then ill turn it back on for that site.

WOW, sorry that was so long

I've downloaded every program mentioned on this site to stop pop ups. No dice for me. Haven't had any luck with any of them. Still get them regularly. It's been quite bad lately.

Any ideas?????

Pop-up stopper will not allow more than one web page to be opened at a time. So if you have tried that program then you did not "turn it on".. You can disable it if you want to.

Hold the "alt" button and stroke "print scrn". It will capture the entire current screen. You then need to paste the image into photoshop or a comparable program.
