Default Crew Chief Challenge at APBA Worlds in Key West

We were thinking of a way to say "Thank you!" and show some appreciation for all the hard work tht Crew Chiefs put in throughout the year and someone suggested we have a race just for them.

We could not agree more and have agreed to lease our boats at a minimal cost to cover expenses ($1500 to $2400) for the boat, race, safty training and everything. The cost will cover special event T-shirts, safty coverage and helicopter time, a large framed picture for the team and the Crew Chief taken by Tom Newby, coverage by Powerboat Magazine and H2O Performance.com, the boat for the Crew Chief and either a driver, throttleman, or another crew member, team vinyl and names on the boat, testing from Saturday to Thursday morning and all safty equiptment, etc.

To allow all teams to participate, we are doing it on Saturday afternoon, after the World championship races for the day have been run.

We have three of the larger teams who have committed, and there are some final issues that have to be covered with the APBA and Coast Gaurd, but we really want to see it happen if possible.

Are there any teams out there that would be interested or any ideas anyone has to how it could be a better event?

doc i saw your batboat and cig at McManus's setup at the lauderdale show. Damn you got some nice toys!!!!

I was drooling all over those apaches too....

As for eth crew chief race. It sounds like a fun opportunity. I'm nto a crew chief but how much, and woudl it be possible, for me run in this race? I'm not a boat crew chief but i do work on formula cars

beside the more competition the better

Looks like Saturday is our best option, just following the second race.

The cruise ships may make it difficult to do on Thursday and Friday.

This would also put it after the finals of the One Design World Championships, and even though we have not had an accident involving our boats (knock on wood,) I would hate to take away an opportunity for one of our teams.

We also have someone making a trophy that will be something to remember.

So lets hear from the teams, is anyone else interested?

Also... Should we just have the race, or do some sort of Challenge where they have to find proplems with a boat and are timed... Kinda like an obstacle course.

If you have enough openings...would you allow crews from other boat racing categories? Say for instance....Formula One?

just curious

Yes we did! Though we never got a trophy
But we did get a cool T-Shirt.

Wish I could come to Key West --- I'll have to put that on my list of goals.'

My posting was directed more toward some local Florida tunnel boat teams. Many of the crew chief's are former powerboat racers themselves, and I'm sure they'd love to get an opportunity like this.

Remember -- send me some pics!

I know, It would be great to
have different drivers from
different types of boats racing
kinda like IROC,Did I say that.
But then some Guy named Steve
David might want to run.
