Am I just crazy or is this right???
Ok everyone, I need your opinions. As many of you know I have spent the last year updating my 35 Fountain to 2002 specs. I recently came across a 1992 42 Fountain that has had similar updates. My boat is a 1995 with 525's and the 42 has triple 500's. I really love the look of this 42 Fountain because of the patriot graphics and detail work. I have spent a lot of money and hours to get my 35 to where it is and when we started talking about a trade I thought things might go smoothly. After exchanging pictures and information on upgrades, they told me they would need my boat plus $55,000 to $60,000 more if I were willing to trade. I am not trying to knock anyone's boat, but that sounded a little high. My questions are:
1. Is that too high for a three year older boat?
2. Should I just keep my boat and add the new 8-71 Blowers?
I just recently added race scoops to my hatches and in the process of re-doing the interior upholstery and adding the race fairing. I trust all of your opinions, so BE HONEST PLEASE.
Thank you
Ryan

I'd guess this guy is willing to trade if you're willing to pay him a premium for doing the trade, which means he would probably be more receptive to a cash sale. But if you're like me, you really don't want to be a two-boat owner. Good luck. Dave

Yeah, that does seem high going from a 1995 to a 1992.
I know for a fact I can go from my 1996 32'er to a 1996 42'er for around $60k more. Maybe not a "direct trade" as I have not inquired as to this, but taking asking prices into consideration, that is about the difference.
I'd suggest keep looking, take your time. You have to feel right about the right deal. Good luck!

First of all thank you for the suggestions. I am always looking to move up or make mine faster.
CATMANDO,
I haven't seen the Whipples used in place of the blowers used in the stock set-up. What kind of HP increase would I see as compared to the 8-71's?

That sounds crazy to me, there is no way that 42' Fountain is worth $55,000-$60,000 more than your 35. Go on boattrader and compare prices of similar boats. Also go on NADA they list the average retail of a 1995 35' Fountain at $71,700, a 1992 42' Fountain (twin) at $71,400 and a 1992 42' Fountain (triple) at $80,300. These were base prices, but if both boats are equally equiped the diffence in price should stay close.
You definately would be better off selling your boat than looking for something else.

I am looking to make somewhere between 650 and 750 HP. I believe that is about the max I can put in without having to change drives. I have upgraded my Bravos, but I'm not sure they will handle much more than that.
