Default What to get?

Dreamer,
Well, while it's tough to hear, only you can decide. We'er in the same dilemna, we'd like a new boat and that budget, however, after looking, we're going to wind up having to spend more for what we want. It all depends on what is important to you and how you use a boat.

It depends on what size. On Lake MI, our 32 Fountain does pretty well, but as most do, we wish we had bigger for more comfort. We run with some 32 AT's (they ride better than our Fountain, but I dont' have any problem running with them in rough water, they just have a better ride). At some point, it gets as rough as anyone cares to be out in the lake. In any boat. That becomes kinda stupid when you read of all the incidents we had this past year. Safe is better. Stay on land. So, having blabbered a lot, if ride is important, a 38 Cig is the way to go , or 41 Apache from what I hear.

Cabin space is the main reason for us moving up. A Cig doesn't do this for us. An 41 Apache is a little older than we want to go, and we've talked to Saber about a new 41, but that is higher than we want to spend. Plus, their amenities are not likely going to be what others are. How important is cabin? If it is, maybe a 38 Powerquest or older 43 Black Thunder or Outerlimits is more the way to go.

Speed? Well, to do 80, it's not all as hard in a newer boat. The older you go, the harder that is. Our Fountain is a good balance, just slim on cabin space, but sure is fast, and it handles well. I'm sure a 38'er would do it better. Hustler makes a fast boat also, and good cabin room, except the head seems cramped.

How many have you looked at? I can tell you what we do. We go to marinas and look at all the boats we possibly can, new or used. When we find what we're looking for looks, cabin, etc wise, then we'll go for rides. Narrow it down to what you are looking for and what is most important to you, and go from there.

That 37 AT that is a 2002 that AT has seems decent. I also know of a new 2000 37 v-hull for sale that you can probably get in your range, and it has all the goodies, a/c gen, etc. Good rough water boats, as are SOnics, but 80 is tough in a Sonic, unless it's very new, and your budget probably won't get you knew enough, unless you go with a 31.

Rule # 1. Never ever let anyone know how much$$$$ you have to spend. There are a lot of very nice used boats out there, the market is slow, the ball is in your court,HAGGLE, HAGGLE, HAGGLE,Now with the cash you have you should be able to find a verry sweet ride, Good luck in your search.

My vote would be a Formula. Can't beat their quality and looks. Yeah, there are some faster boats, but its very comfortable.

For $100K you could take my 41 Velocity with 600hp Teague motors. There is only 160hrs on the boat and 80 on the motors. It's all white so that extra 30K will buy a lot of gas or a really cool paint job!!!!

You could get into a new 38 Powerquest for under that W/ 496's, that should do 74-76mph. A little more $ will get you 500's and over 80 mph. Not a custom boat but well built and economical to run w/ a warranty. Depreciation is minimal for a new boat.
