Gil 1 piece rear motor mount plate (pics)?

How/where in the hell is the GM block mount starter supposed to clear the mount which is sandwiched between the block and bell housing? Am I missing something totally obvious?

I have pics if need be, but anyone who runs this combination will know exactly what I'm talking about...

Thanks in advance!

Most of the starters used are mounted in the bell housing from the rear above trans

PS remember there is 2 differant bellhousings, 1 for a rear mount and 1 with out using a rear race mount, if you use the wrong one the starter will not work!!! The differance is the clearnce for the race mount.

The Gil mount doesn't have a hole for the "starter cone."

Here's what I'm working against.

I believe they were intended to be used with this style bellhousing. Or at least the bellhousing starter mount.

Since the flywheel is behind the motor mount, you do not require a hole for the starter if it is behind the mount also. Lots easier to get to the starter for maintenance also.

Just cut them and make clearnce

Thanks fellas.

Makes perfect sense Jim, however a rear mount starter won't clear my transom. I was originally hoping to use my crusader top starter mount bell housing, but can't for that reason.

Looks like Offshore Score has your only hope unless you want to buy new mounts from GIL.

Good luck

ps. You could cut a hole in the transom for clearance.:D
Just a thought
