Default F-2 question

A friend and Myself were thinking of buying F2-98 Formula , The old Tredwell Motorsports boat , It is at a repo lot nearby (NOt from them) Repoed that is. I was told that I will need to ship the motors to Innavation in florida to have them certified for F-2 racing and they are the only ones that can do this, They still have the Merc. tamper tages on the motors, they are 500hp,s not EFI,s and the valve covers have Teague in them wich means they have probally allready have been gone through, more than lilkey are now 509ci . I was told that all f-2 boats must be certified by them only BEFORE you can race the boat weather used or new, Is this true?

You may ask yourself, is the Teague valve covers possibly one reason why everyone now sends their motors to CRE?
Here's the deal. It won't cost you any more to get them rebuilt from CRE than it would have at most of the old approved repair centers. Now, everyone sends all factory motors to the same place. So, if the motors are found to be "legal" upon a CRE inspection, the CRE folks will then put on the current inspection tags and your ready to race for a minimal fee. This process insures you an equal playing field as far as motors are concerned, regardless of how fat your bank is.
This process will actually save you money in the long run since it used to cost "extra" to get one of those "special" motors.
Now, there are no more "specials" and everyone pays the same.
Sound fair enough?
Good luck and good racing!

Sorry dude, but I don't know the exact number, so I would call Innovation Marine in Sarasota FL. for a direct quote. BUT, if the motors were rebuilt from Teague, be prepared for some possible additional cost.

Actually, you are getting the boat at a pretty good price, so you may be better off selling the old carb HP500's and buying brand new Mercury 525's, or better yet, get involved with the GM Vortec lease program.
