I’ll add a fun boat cartoon. Can’t recall where it came from, may have been OSO so apologies to the ‘owner’.

Sad but true to an extent. A lot of people that I introduced to boating didn't stay in it long. So many costs associated with it that they didn't factor in such as storage fees, property tax, maintenance, etc...wasn't just the payment, insurance and fuel costs that they thought it would be.

Baja,

Yup. I've got a theory as to why it's the SECOND happiest day in someone's life when they sell their boat....

You invite them out on the boat. They show up at the ramp, with their crap under their arms, and climb in the boat. They have a wonderful day out on the water. At the end of the day, they get out of your boat, with their crap under their arms, and they head home. As they're driving home, they are thinking "Man.... That was really cool. I think I'll buy a boat." So, they do. Over the course of that first summer, some of the work that went into that wonderful day on the water dawns on them. And then winter comes, and they have to WiNtEriZe is (?!?). During that second season, the costs start to add up in the checkbook. And about this time is when they come to the conclusion it's better to have a friend with a boat than to actually own a boat. And so, they sell it.

For me, it was almost fate. I was born into the lifestyle, literally. We have a pic of my mom, six months pregnant, on a set of skis on Cumberland. I've never not been "a boater". And it's weird... Of all the kids I grew up boating with, of the families that were part of the "Ohio Navy", Who grew up in it the same as me, literally NONE of them are boating today. This just simply doesn't compute with me. I can't imagine not having a boat. I got very lucky that I met a woman that absolutely fell in love with it. I took her to my dad's place on Cumberland ONE time, and the hook was set. It took us a while before we had our own boat, but I can't see us every not owning a boat until we age out and just can't do it anymore.

Thanks. Brad.

Same here as Brad. I grew up on Lake St Clair. My dad had boats my whole life. Two of my uncles had boats that we would hang out with regularly. My 5th birthday party was on my dad's boat, at the marina. My wife and I love the boating lifestyle. Couldn't imagine not being part of it. What else would we do during the summer?!?!
