Default Car Help

on my moms 2000 Firebird, theres a new squeaking noise when you turn the wheel. Almost 70k miles on it, and it starts making the noise. What do you think it is, some type of steering fluid pump? Any suggestions?

Thanks
Tommy

Check the power steering level. Check the fluid for foam. Foam = bad. Check the belt also. If it looks at all worn, replace it.

Worse case it's bad bearings in the pump. Bad.

Also check the belt tensioner. It has a pivot that should be tight and have very little gap. When they wear out the gap gets wide and uneven. If it's worn out it will allow the belt to slip and make noise.

Did you change over to winter air in the tires ? Muffler bearings maybe...they are a ***** to adjust w/o a left handed ratchet.

I just re aired the muffler bearings and greased the tires. As for the left hand ratchet, i just turned a right handed one upside down. Tomorrow i think i will check the pistonsprings.

Yes it did start after it got cold.
Steering Fluid level is low. Gotta go to the store and get some.
