just had boat surveyed...
and the surveyor found cracks in the paint and clear on the hull side by the bow close to some hard points... he said it was due to the boat being run hard in the rough and getting stuffed a couple of times flexing the hull and cracking the paint... does this sound right? and what does this mean with regards to hull integrity? purchase price? resale?
also found the same an the underside of the hull in the mid section someone please explain, i have not heard of this |
What kind of boat? Paint or Gel coat will crack when it flexes too much.
|
IMO it is normal wear and tear similar to what happens to engines over time. Most if not all boats flex especially in roughwater conditions. paint or gel can crack with flexing as well as areas where the paint/gel was put on heavy, and corners. apparantly paint and gel don't flex as good as fiberglass.
I assume boats flex to absorb the force of speed on water, and rough conditions. With the boats that don't flex, does that make them more prone to hull/ superstructure failure, cracking? because they take the full bore of punishment from the force on the hull and nothing is absorbing that energy(as it would by a hull that flexes? Interesting topic... |
I agree with jgb.
What are you looking at? |
rather not say...
but it supposed to be built like a tank!! |
Is it a newer boat? 1995+
I can name that boat in 5 clues :D |
I just bought a boat that I had surveyed. The surveyor did an outstanding job of checking out this boat and his report was very accurate. He did however, miss two stress cracks. I also spent several hours going over the boat when I went to look at it. I probably missed something, too.
Did your surveyor say that he feels that the boat has structural damage? If it isn't sound, I'd stay away from it. There are plenty of boats out there. Be patient, it will pay off in the long run. I looked at plenty of boats ( over a 2 year period) before I found "The One". Good luck in the hunt!! |
cig1.... you allready got THE clue
he said no delamination or structural problems but just an indication of use/ cosmetics |
Ooooooooohhh!!!!!
